Stony Batter to Present Into the Woods

Mercersburg’s 110-year-old theatre troupe, Stony Batter, presents Into the Woods on Friday, February 8, at 8 p.m., Saturday, February 9, at 8 p.m., and Sunday, February 10, at 2 p.m., in the Burgin Center for the Arts’ Simon Theatre.

Based on the book by James Lapine with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the award-winning play starts with the familiar stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. Intertwined with these Brothers Grimm fairy tales is a new story—the story of the Baker and his Wife, who want to conceive a child. Plot twists and turns upend the expected happily-ever-afters. The quests fulfilled and the dreams come true have unintended consequences.

Reservations can be made by emailing reservations@mercersburg.edu or calling 717-328-6349. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.  Poster at left by Linda Echtermeyer '09.
