QUESTIONS What's been your proudest moment at Mercersburg?Performing on the radio show "From the Top" at the Burgin Center has been my proudest moment at Mercersburg so far. I was proud of my achievements and it was also special since the Burgin has just opened.
Why did you want to go to Mercersburg?
I came to boarding school to prepare for college. I am an international student—my parents are in Korea—and my brother, Lawrence, and I wanted to be together at the same school. My brother was the only person I knew at all when I came here. I was nervous about meeting new people, making new friends.
Have you used the Chinese you learned at Mercersburg?
One of my favorite teachers is my Chinese teacher, Mr. Kosak. He’s flexible and he’s patient. I went to China for the first time over the summer, and I spoke Chinese there. I was with my family. In some of the hotels, not everyone understood English. We were out of toilet paper, and I told one of the housekeeping guys that it was gone. My parents don’t speak Chinese, and I felt really good about being able to speak in stores and to order in restaurants. I emailed my teacher to tell him how excited I was.
What have been your favorite classes?
My three favorite classes are Chinese 20, English 20, and Biology. The teachers of these classes are all great! Also, I love learning different languages and I feel comfortable at it. I think it is because of the good ears I have from learning music. Biology has been a very fascinating class for me this year, and I learned a lot about Science.
What was the class you're glad you took but never want to take again?
I'm glad that I took painting class because I get to know Mr. Flowers and also I learned about how to really paint. Yet, I am not planning to take it again because now I know that I am not really gifted in painting and I would just keep the painting class I took this year as a good memory.
What are your favorite places on campus?
I would choose the chapel, the Burgin Center, and Tippetts Hall. I love practicing at chapel and I also love the atmosphere and the feeling of the chapel. Burgin has all the pianos and the hall where I can play music! Tippetts is where I live. I have to love where I live!
If you could offer one piece of advice to an incoming student, what would it be?
Have passion for something. Don't waste your time.
