The kids played their hearts out until the very end - both teams had players cramping and digging deep and their were courageous efforts from both teams.  3 out of the 5 years we have played St. Albans, the game has been decided in the end by a 2 point conversion and for the first time we came out on the wrong end.  We will rally and get ready for Landon next Saturday!"

Smith led the Storm offense from his quarterback position, hitting 12-27 passes and running for three scores.  Troy Harrison'10 rushed 14 times for 82 yards and Matt Young'10 nabbed six catches for 68 yards.  Bond Stockdale'09  led the defensive effort with 12 tackles, while Young also snared an interception to set up a score.

In a game ruled by major shifts in momentum, the Storm fell to Washington, D.C. rival St. Albans in what has become a series of close fought contests.  St. Albans took a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter, but Mercersburg responded with a solid second quarter effort that culminated in the first of three Trevor Smith'09 touchdown runs to tie it 7-7 at the half.

The Storm was at full strength through much of the second half, scoring twice to post a 21-7 lead with just over six minutes remaining. However, the Bulldogs responded with back-to-back big play drives, scoring touchdown with 1:16 remaining.  St. Albans gambled on a two-point conversion and was successful, taking a 22-21 lead.

However, Smith hit David Erichsen'10 on a deep pass to the St. Albans 30 yard line with time running short.  A.J. Firestone's 47 yard field goal attempt to win the game then fell just short of its mark.

Despite the loss, Coach Dan Walker was upbeat and focused on the intensity of the contest, stating,The kids played their hearts out until the very end - both teams had players cramping and digging deep and their were courageous efforts from both teams.  3 out of the 5 years we have played St. Albans, the game has been decided in the end by a 2 point conversion and for the first time we came out on the wrong end.  We will rally and get ready for Landon next Saturday!"
